Mark Mulaza Kaira (born 10th October 1984), popularly known by the stage names; Macky II, Macky 2, MK, Dj Bugar, King Bugar, Ghetto President and Flava Boy, is one of the Top rated Zambian hip-hop musician, singer, and producer.
He is known for participating in the ninth season of Big Brother Africa, where he placed third in the competition. Mulaza is from Luanshya in the Copperbelt province of Zambia where he was born and raised. Kaira runs “The Macky 2 Hope Foundation”, in his hometown, which supports orphans and vulnerable children. H His younger brother Kondwani Kaira aka Chef 187 is also a top rated musician in Zambia and the two have performed together on stage multiple times.
He began showing an interest in music in his childhood after attending the Catholic Church in Ndola. He then got into the studio and started making music as an upcoming rapper. He got into the mainstream after releasing a cover of the song “This Is Why am Hot” by then-popular western artist MIMS.
While under the record label Danger-zone Macky 2 found himself in Hip-Hop beef with rapper Slapdee (From the Capital city Lusaka aka Berg) which has till this day been the biggest music beef Zambia has ever seen, It all Started when according to the rapper an award was unfairly given to his competitor. The beef span over 7 years making a division in the Zambian Music industry, Musicians from Danger-zone/Alpha Ent. (Macky 2’s Record Label) started beefing Musicians from X.Y.Z ent. (Slapdee’s Record Label).
It got to a point where it was city vs city as Musicians from Kopala (Copperbelt ) backed Macky 2 and others from Berg (Lusaka) Backed Slapdee, It was later squashed at a concert where the two were expected to face-off in a rap battle but ended up putting an end to the beef.
In 2011 Kaira left home to travel to Lusaka, where he released his album Ndimupondo under the Digital X label with Alfa Entertainment and J-Kayo. Two songs from the album, I am The President and Number 1 Fan, received radio play and were positively received by the listening community. He later received the Zambia Music Award for Album of The Year in 2013 for his album Legendary. In 2014 Macky 2 Was nominated in the Zambia Music Awards, in the categories of Best Mainstream Artist, Best Hip Hop/Rap Album and Best Collaboration.
Kopala Swag Frenzy
Being one of the top artists in the country, Macky 2 began thinking business and with help of other entities/persons came up with the “Kopala Swag” movement (meaning copperbelt style). This Frenzy has been a trend since 2005/2006. This trend brought the introduction of the biggest merch distribution in Zambia, with Kopala Swag Printed T-Shirts, Caps, Branded Cars. It is unknown who is the actual owner of the Kopala Swag Brand but it is speculated that Macky 2 is the owner of the Brand. Kopala Dance as part of the Frenzy has also been a trend in Zambian Music videos including those of artists who are not from the copper-belt.
Big Brother Africa 9 (HOTSHOTS)
Kaira was a contestant during the ninth season of Big Brother Africa, during which time some viewers stated that he was “too quiet”. He survived in the house for the full length of the show received a substantial amount of support from his fans and Zambians at large. He stayed in the house until the ninth and final week, when he was eliminated in third place. After competing in the house, D’banj’s of DB Records wanted to sign him but he said no due to the conditions of the contract. the issue of the contract it is said that they wanted him to vacate to Nigeria and release his first single at Valentine’s Day in 2016.
